Hotel Chocolat Review

Got an e-mail a while ago from the lovely Beth at Jam & Cream PR who was looking for bloggers to get involved in her Christmas blogger campaign. So I signed up hoping that there may be companys out there who were interested in my blog and I would get some offers to blog to my readers about their brilliant Christmas products.

First to offer me a chance to do this was Hotel Chocolat.  They say they are

From the very beginning, over 15 years ago, founders Angus Thirlwell and Peter Harris had one goal in mind – to make a better type of chocolate available to UK consumers bored by the mediocrity of that available in supermarkets and on the high street.

So, starting as a catalogue-based business, that’s exactly what we did – making our brand of exclusive chocolates available to UK consumers for the first time. An award-winning website soon followed and in 2004 the first of many Hotel Chocolat stores appeared on the high street.

Becoming an origin chocolatier is a large investment and full of risk – no wonder no other UK chocolate maker has made the same commitment to real chocolate. But that commitment has been repaid not only by the loyalty of customers… we were recently awarded Emerging Retailer of the Year by the influential Retail Week and in 2007 were officially confirmed as a Cool Brand.

I got to pick an item from their Christmas Range and have it sent out and write a review on it. So I chose a Dark chocolate Rudolph the Reindeer at £7.50 which is described as
Ever the trendsetter, our very own Rudolph The Reindeer has insisted on a minimalist-look, with his vegan suitable scarf. This year he’s sporting a pure 70% cocoa cashmere number and is all set to be the most stylish, vegan suitable stocking filler!
Please note when you get yours it will have 2 ears, mine broke off in the post (postman shoved it through letterbox) and it was eaten before I could get a picture!!

The reindeer is dark chocolate, but this was a very pleasant dark chocolate, not as bitter as some could be and very edible and enjoyable. It was very smooth and melted pleasantly in your mouth and left a very pleasant after taste. He is well designed with his scarf and jumper on and he is well dressed for the season.

This reindeer I found nigh on impossible to break, as he is 1/2 an inch thick, but I did manage to cut him up with a large sharp knife.  I felt he was reasonable value for money, as he certainly was a very good grade chocolate, and I loved his design and novelty value for this time of year.

a Chocolate tasting adventure

Our Chocolate Tasting Adventures have been created especially for chocolate lovers who would like to take the first step in discovering more of their appreciation of chocolate – gaining delicious insider knowledge and tasting tips. Over two wonderful hours, you will discover the best ways to get to know chocolate, how to taste it, when to taste it and what to look out for. As you progress through the experience you will also discover how to pick out the nuances of flavour and texture influenced by such things as the type of cocoa, terroir and conching time. The evening is designed for beginners who would like to start their journey of discovering real chocolate, learning the key elements that effect the taste of cocoa.

Have you also heard about their Chocolate Club? This may also make an ideal on going present for a true chocoholic  friend as well.
Each month we create a brand new selection of chocolates including cutting edge, new recipes and timeless classics alike – all made with passion, flair using only the best ingredients and no artificial colours. Our members get to discover and taste chocolates across the full spectrum, from velvety pralines and melt-away gianduja, to silky cream ganaches and so many more.

No commitment to take every month, if you want you can choose from every second month right down to twice a year. Your first box is at a special introductory price, so why not pop over and treat yourself?

I was sent this product free to review but this is an honest review of my findings and is not influenced by this.
