Vax S6S Home Pro steam + detergent cleaner - A review

When I had moved house back in June I had borrowed a friends steamer. Steam cleaners are such useful items, they are great for cleaning cupboards, floors, shower units as well as windows and mirrors. It made a brilliant job of all the tiles in the bathroom both the floor and the walls. I also did all my work tops with it to sterilise them as well.

So when I was approached by Vax and asked would I like to try out one of their steamers it was an offer to good to refuse. They were offering me a  Vax S6S Home Pro steam + detergent cleaner.

The Vax S6S Home Pro is featured in the top 50 best household cleaners in The Independent newspaper!
The Vax Home Pro steam + detergent cleaner has everything you need for hygienic cleaning all around your home. It can be used in almost every room and is great for larger jobs such as cleaning upholstery, pet beds and ovens.
It uses a specially formulated, environmentally friendly detergent that breaks down grease and grime more effectively than just steam alone and eliminates 99.9% of harmful bacteria for up to 7 days.
Also included is a 16-piece accessory kit that has tools for tackling a wide range of surfaces, including floors and windows. The kit includes a triangular floor head, Vax Steam Detergent x1, upholstery tool cloth x2, velcro microfibre cleaning pads x2, carpet glider, cooling base, scraper tool, metal brush, detail tool, concentration nozzle, upholstery/window tool and a small plastic brush.

So I set up the steamer, a very easy process. You have a jug that measures the right amount of water for the machine thought we did get a few air bubbles and needed to give it a shake to get all the water in. All the attachments clip together very easily and there are a good range of attachments to cover most jobs you can think of it do with it. The triangular head gets into the corners of a room well when you are cleaning a floor.

I was sent the machine to review, but the finding are words are all my own.

The first job I tackled with the machine was steaming the creases out of the new curtains I put up a few weeks back, the instructions always tell you they drop out if you hang them, have to say that has never been my experience with any curtains in the past.

The next task was cleaning the oven. I used the detergent for this job.

A steamer is a great item for families with allergies. Eliminates bacteria
The high temperature of the steam kills bacteria, dust mites and other allergens.

So I then used it for killing the dust mites on the bed. I also used it for steaming wallpaper to make it easier to strip, and again this cuts down on dust created making it easier for somebody like me to do.

My thoughts on the machine;

  • easy to use
  • easy to set up
  • great variable steam control
  • good on board storage for tool
  • good selection of tools
  • nice long extension lead so you can plug in and trail it into another room.
  • easy to assemble and disassemble
  • easy to change attachments
  • small, lightweight and easy to manoeuvre and carry.

  1. I have, and love, a steam mop but I do love the idea of using steam for other purposes - particularly decreasing curtains or cleaning mattresses!
